MTV India: The First Indian Brand on Google+

mtv-india

We’ve received a note from the folks at MTV India today saying that they are now officially on Google+. That’s pretty quick. MTV India, to the best of our knowledge, is probably the first brand in India to get on Google+. The channel’s wildly popular reality television show, MTV Roadies, is already on Google+ as well.

The MTV India brand is pretty tech savvy with a strong presence on Facebook and Twitter. Similarly, the digital marketers behind the brand also hope to replicate those successes on the search engine’s latest social platform.

We managed to contact Ekalavya Bhattacharya, Digital Media & Products Head for MTV India, who shared his thoughts with us:

Google+ looks a promising platform and has a lot of potential to help brands engage with their audiences. Though it’s not at a stage to compete with Facebook, it has great potential to become a marketing and engagement tool for small and large companies alike.

At least when it comes to technology, the early adopters tend to enjoy the most benefit if it ever become successful. It is the same when Twitter and Google Buzz were introduced, though the latter didn’t emerge as a winner by any stretch.

Bhattacharya said that his team is excited to be on Google+ and believes that MTV should be present in every platform where their audiences are, especially teenagers. He explained that MTV India hopes to be an early adopter on every social platform.

“Google is an Internet behemoth, and even with past social failures like Buzz and Wave we believe in being the first at trying it. MTV India would gain a first mover advantage as Google+ slowly grows into a mass platform,” he said.

But will Google Plus actually catch on? Only time will tell. But kudos to MTV India for leading the way on Google+.
