Social Games Big in Asia, But How are They Doing in India?

We’ve written much here on this blog about social gaming in Asia, particularly in China and Japan. But we don’t hear too much about the social gaming space in India. Today we’re hearing from MOL, Asia’s leading e-payment provider for games and social networks, that social gaming is ‘experiencing huge growth’ in that country.

MOL India says about half of the nation’s Facebook users play social games. They say that this is about 10 million social gamers, although user metrics for Facebook are never easy to nail down (SocialBakers says 38 million total right now).

Ganesh Kumar Bangah, MOL’s CEO further explains:

The audience and revenue growth forecast is tremendous and this presents an opportunity for marketers to promote their brands through social games. The user growth we are witnessing continues to increase beyond expectations. This is really a good time for companies to explore social gaming initiatives in India.

As for mobile gaming in India, that’s on the rise as well, correlating with increased smartphone adoption. A recent Nielson India report says that more and more mobile users are spending time gaming, with 84 percent of Android users saying they have played games recently.

And while there’s no answer to GREE or Mobage in India yet (maybe India is on their list?), expect to see more companies jumping into the country to take advantage of the growing market.
