Mobile games in Asia now have a Safe Gaming Alliance

According to a press release by Trend Micro, Asian gamers just don’t care about their mobile security. And so the security software provider is spearheading a “Safe Gaming Alliance” aimed at protecting Asian mobile users from malicious and high-risk mobile apps.

It will be doing this via its Dr. Safety mobile security app, which it states will be able to

  • scan all your apps and files
  • safeguard your privacy by identifying apps that steal your personal info
  • block malicious websites
  • find your device for you when you’ve lost it
  • provide white and blacklist features for your contacts
  • recommend secure games to play

To ensure the final feature isn’t just the kind of boring games you might have been forced to play in grade school, Trend Micro has partnered up with game studios across Southeast Asia. These include Appxplore, Creatiosoft, Funplus, Gamiana, Gumi Asia, Monkey Wrench Games, Pigsss Games, Softstar Entertainment, Tuttifrutti Interactive, and the Games Solution Centre in Singapore.

These studios will have their games recommended when users look for secure games to download.

58 percent of Singaporean mobile gamers surveyed by Trend Micro don’t use mobile security or anti-virus apps, making them the most vulnerable users in the region. Users in Malaysia and Thailand are next vulnerable, ringing in with an unprotected 44 percent. A third of respondents (the final tally wasn’t revealed) in Philippines and Indonesia don’t use mobile security or anti-virus apps either.

Dr Safety is available in English, Bahasa Indonesia, Traditional Chinese, Portugese, Russian, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese on Android
