Japan's Mobile Gaming Network, Mobage Coming To AT&T’s Android Users
It was just last week that Japanese mobile gaming company, DeNA, broke the news about its ambitious movements to bring Mobage, its social mobile game network to the English-speaking markets. And of course, the U.S is naturally the first choice as DeNA continues to expand westwards.
Through ngmoco (now a subsidiary of DeNA), the mobile gaming company has secured an agreement with AT&T to bring Mobage to its Android users. The move was swift but not much else was disclosed in the statement. No exact release date was provided.
Mobage, as we previously learned from DeNA, has over 27 million users with more than 1,000 game titles in Japan. But in the U.S, Mobage in English is currently still in beta. While it has 30 million users back in Japan, it remains to be seen whether DeNA can replicate the same success in the U.S.
Its competitor, GREE hasn’t made much movement in the U.S, besides its Openfeint acquisition. Not yet anyway. Instead, it has chosen to partner with other giant networks in Asia including Tencent and mig33, making that alliance over 800 million users strong. It is certainly enjoyable to watch these two mobile gaming giants jockey for position in the mobile gaming space. My gut feel tells me that this tussle is far from over. Grab your popcorn and drinks, you’re in for a long battle.
