MOBA mashup: who would win, LoL's Ashe or Dota 2's Drow Ranger?

League of Legends and Dota 2 are two different games. But what if they werenโ€™t? What if heroes from Dota and champions from LoL really could meet up and battle it out 1v1? This is MOBA mashup, where a Dota 2 player (Xai) and an LoL player (Charlie) discuss who would win.

For our first inaugural MOBA mashup weโ€™ve chosen two very similar heroes. On the Dota side, weโ€™ve got Drow Ranger, and on the League side weโ€™ve picked Ashe. Both blue-themed carry archers with pretty faces and dead parents. Which of them would win in a fight?

Charlie: This is definitely a battle theyโ€™d both want to fight from range. Both have strong ranged abilities, and if one got the drop on the other that might be all the advantage thatโ€™s needed to win. Both heroes have slows and AoE abilities that mean you definitely donโ€™t want to get close, so it might come down to a cat-and-mouse game between Drowโ€™s agility and evasion and Asheโ€™s ability to spot stealthy targets at great range with Hawkshot and then lock them up with her ult.

Xai: This is a battle of who initiates first. If weโ€™re talking about a map-wide fight, Ashe has better vision with Hawkshot and has global range with her ult. This is something that Drow lacks, so Ashe has the upper hand in the game of cat-and-mouse. On the other hand, Ashe is quite dependent on her skills so at closer range, Drow could start by using Gust to silence her first and push her back with it as well (rendering her unable to attack in the 0.5 second knockback duration) to get in as much damage as possible.

Charlie: Of course, another aspect of this fight would be psychological, and I think Ashe has the edge on that front. On the one hand, Drow Rangerโ€™s parents were murdered when she was young. That also happened to Batman, and he ended up a total badass. However, the fact that she was raised by the Drow made her a bit insecure about her own identity and her looks, and she ultimately set out on her own and became kind of a loner.

Ashe faced a similar challenge at a young ageโ€”the death of her motherโ€”but she overcame it and the subsequent assassination attempt and went on to become a respected leader of her tribe (with a little help from her magical bow, of course). Because of this, I think she might come into the battle with more confidence and self assurance than Drow Ranger, and that could make all the difference.

Xai: Asheโ€™s strong personality as a result from her experiences is definitely a big deal. Traxex indeed had insecurities living with the Drow, but this leaves us to think about what happened after she left the tribe? Did she discover true herself during her time alone? Was she able to better see her strengths and improve on them? Being alone has its drawbacks, but it also has its own strengths. Unfortunately, the lore for Traxex the Drow Ranger isnโ€™t as lengthy and detailed as Asheโ€™s so this is something that is left for us to ponder.

And the winner isโ€ฆ

Charlie: Ashe if she hits her ult. Otherwise, Drow Ranger.
Xai: Drow Ranger if she makes good use of her silence. Otherwise, Ashe.

What about you? Who do you think would win in a battle between Ashe and Drow Ranger?
