50 Million Users Strong, mig33 Announces Developer Program with GREE

mig33“Knock knock,” mobile game developers. Here’s news not to be missed. If you’re snubbing the Asian market, it’s time to wake up and look at what’s happening in the mobile sector in Asia. mig33, the largest mobile social network in Southeast Asia, has just announced their developer platform with GREE, one of the largest mobile gaming companies in Japan.

To put it simply, this is a great chance for mobile game developers to make some revenue by focusing what they do best — developing games.

The mig33 social platform leverages on the API specs standardized with GREE’s. Yes, you heard that right. If you build games for mig33, chances are your games can also be on GREE’s platform too. Some of you who are familiar with both platforms might question the language diversity on both networks. Yes, mig33 is mainly in English and Indonesian while GREE is in Japanese. But have no fear…

Lost in Translation? Not at all.

I spoke to GREE’s Daisuke Kobayashi, the director of international alliance business operations (phew that’s a long title!) earlier today, and he explained that GREE will offer support for mobile developers who wish to put their games on its platform. That includes help in language translation and customer support. In my opinion, it’s an awesome chance to tap onto the Japanese market.

China could be on your map as well. GREE’s platform offers developers more than 800 million users (yes, that’s larger than even Facebook), a huge chunk of which are from China’s Internet behemoth, Tencent. An alliance agreement between Tencent and GREE earlier this year made this possible.

Kobayashi did mention that Tencent will offer the same support to mobile game developers, helping them to translate games to into Chinese. No further details have been given to us though, since Kobayashi can’t say much on Tencent’s behalf.

“It’s a mobile developers dream,” said Steven Goh, CEO and co-founder of mig33. He added:

In just the past two years, mig33 has almost doubled in size, forged partnerships with developers, retailers and more, and has allied with handset makers across Asia and beyond. Our focus has been on delivering mobile social entertainment within a huge delivery network that generates fun for our users and revenue for our partners. mig33 is bringing those huge revenue and user opportunities to mobile developers everywhere.

12 Partners, for now

It was also announced that there are 12 initial developer partners for mig33 for now. The list looks pretty impressive, with developers from China, Germany , Indonesia, India, and many more:
