Six months since its beta launch and with more than 30 million users globally. Microsoft has finally introduced its Office Web Apps to more countries in Asia, including India, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand.
Microsoft Office Apps were already launched in China, Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea last December and planned to make its cloud product available to the world by the end of March.
Users can now access Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote for free by logging in with their Windows Live ID. Similar to rival Google Docs, Microsoft Office Web Apps allows users to create view, edit, and share Office documents on the cloud.
“Office Web Apps are a key piece of Microsoft’s overall cloud strategy and are designed to empower people to take their familiar productivity experience on the web,” Sanjay Manchanda, Microsoft Business Division Director told Times of India.
Office Web Apps provide consistent formatting with full images and footnotes, table borders and text effects for users. To start, users are only required to have a Windows Live ID, a supported web browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome or Safari) and of course, Internet connection.
Moreover, team members can work together using Office Web Apps, regardless of what version of Microsoft Office they use and whether they work on a PC or a Mac.
With Facebook integration, users are now able to view documents directly on Facebook using Office Web Apps. It makes it a lot simpler for people to access and share information across different devices, networks and platforms.
