Exclusive: Indonesian employee assistance app bags funding from Modalku co-founder, others

Maxi, an Indonesia-based employee assistance app, has raised an undisclosed amount of pre-seed funding from a host of startup executives.

Backers of the round include Javas Venture general partner Alexander Sie To, Modalku co-founder Iwan Kurniawan, WeNetwork founder Antonio Mazza, and LingoAce country manager Emili Nirmala.

Maxi offers a platform that focuses on improving users’ mental wellness and productivity. Features such as anonymous feedback and workplace wellbeing monitoring are aimed at helping employees, but employers stand to benefit as well.

The company said in a statement that it targets English-speaking professionals in Southeast Asia. Prior to Maxi’s recent launch, it had acquired 1,500 users from 20 companies, including Bank Sampoerna and startups such as EVOS, Aman, and Keyta.

Hariadi Tjandra, a former executive at Indonesian conglomerate Sinar Mas Group, and Julia Erica, an ex-executive of performance marketing firm Kaliber Asia, established Maxi in March 2022. The startup currently has 10 employees spread across its tech, product, and psychology teams.

The firm plans to use the fresh funding to boost product development, increase hiring, step up brand-building, and grow its customer base. Maxi aims to have 100,000 people on its platform by early next year.
