In brief: TikTok hires YouTube exec in US push
TikTok, the Chinese-owned company that has quickly become one of the hottest apps in North America, has hired a veteran YouTube executive to oversee its US operations. Vanessa Pappas, who was YouTube’s global head of creative insights, is now the video sharing app’s first-ever general manager for the US, the company confirmed to Cheddar.

Pappas specialized in growth tactics for influencers and celebrities while at YouTube, presiding over the new trend for famous YouTubers.
TikTok is on a roll, passing 500 million active users worldwide as it rises up the app charts. At time of publishing, the app is ranked sixth on iOS in the US, just behind YouTube and Instagram.
Pappas will work from TikTok’s Los Angeles office.
