The company’s group CEO Tony Fernandes wrote in a LinkedIn post that AirAsia will be bringing its AirAsia Food business to the city-state. The company is currently offering the service on its main app in Malaysia.
“Took me seven years to get approval to fly to Singapore but better late than never. So I’d say we’re way ahead of schedule on food,” he wrote.
Responding to a comment on the post, the chief exec alluded to the service having less commission fees than its competition. However, it is still unclear if the lower rates would be permanent.
The development comes as AirAsia aims to expand its presence in Southeast Asia’s “super app” race. “We want to be the one-stop shop portal to satisfy all consumer needs […] You can fly, stay, shop, eat, chat – all from the convenience of one app,” AirAsia.com CEO Karen Chan said during Tech in Asia’s Product Development Conference last year.
In addition to its airline business, AirAsia has a presence in logistics with Air Cargo, media with AirAsia ads, financial service with BigPay, and food delivery with Ourfood.

With this ambition, AirAsia is set to go up against regional giants Grab and Gojek, both of which joined the race earlier than the Malaysian startup.
