Malaysian startup MyDerm wins US$10k cash in GIST’s “I Dare” Business Plan Competition

With  participating in the , The Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) Initiative has finally announced the four winners of the I Dare business plan competition, which has more than 300 entrepreneurs from 48 countries participating.

We previously noted that Malaysian and Indonesian startups had made it to the finals of GIST Business Plan Competition. It turns out that Malaysian startup MyDerm has won the MegaGIST Award worth US$10,000.

Here are the four winners:

Greennovation Technologies, TeraGIST Award, US$50,000; Greenovation Technologies has created a building material called Jutin, composed of jute fiber and resin, which can be used to build affordable, sustainable housing. Directors Saimum Hossain and Badhan Mazumber are business school graduates from Bangladesh.

PAK-Energy Solution, GigaGIST Award, US$25,000; PakEnegery Solutions has developed a natural gas digester for home use. It generates clean gas for cooking while providing heat, light and fertilizer as by-products. Founder Ali Raza is an electrical engineer from Pakistan.

MyDerm, MegaGIST Award, US$10,000; MyDerm engineers artificial human skin for the treatment of chronic diabetic ulcers, burns and skin trauma. CEO Khairul Idzwan Baharin, MD, has founded and managed other several other startups in the medical and technology fields. It is based in Malaysia.

E-Aid, Best Female Entrepreneur Award, US$15,000; E-Aid is an education service based in Karachi, Pakistan, that provides face-to-face tutoring for high school and college students worldwide. Rumaisa Mohani, Malika Farha, Babar Uddin Siddiqui and Rumman Hasan have experience in technology, business and teaching.

The competition is organized by CRDF Global, an independent, nonprofit organization established in 1995 to promote international science and technology cooperation through grants, technical resources, training, and services.
