Malaysian mobile devs, don’t miss out on Astro’s #GOInnovate conference
The Astro #GOInnovate conference already had several solid speakers when we wrote about it last month. But with the event finally happening this coming weekend in Cyberjaya, Kuala Lumpur, its schedule is more packed than ever.
Nancy McIntyre, CEO and co-founder of the mobile app network solution provider Fingerprint, will be joining the the present speaker lineup consisting of Kantan Games’ Serkan Toto, Kurechii Studio’s P’ng Yiwei, Appxplore’s Desmond Lee, and Touchten Games’ Anton Soeharyo.

Toto will be speaking about future mobile gaming trends in Asia, P’ng will share his “solo to studio” journey, and Soeharyo will be talking about how to get a million downloads with a $0 budget. The rest of the speakers don’t have confirmed topics yet. Toto and Soeharyo will also be sitting in with Astro for the conference’s closing panel.
On top of speakers and panels, the #GOInnovate conference will also have a mobile game showcase open to everyone, regardless of whether they are based in Malaysia. There is a total of RM 23,000 ($7,106) in cash to be won, following votes by the public and a panel of judges. As mentioned previously, there will be an opportunity for winners to work with Astro.
The final part of the conference is made up of a 48-hour hackathon featuring two innovation challenges. Participants for the hackathon have already been given the brief, but just so you know what’s going on, here’s what they will be building:
Teams will take up either a product or creative challenge. The product challenge questions how a platform or product that redefines media consumption can be created, while the creative challenge is a user-generated experience making use of Astro’s assets. The hackathon features a total of RM30,000 ($9,270) in prizes, if you can impress its judges.
Games in Asia will be on site covering the Astro #GOInnovate event, so if you’ve got a game or a story for us, please say hi!
