Aigis, an Indonesia-based insurtech firm, has raised US$1 million in funding from Y Combinator and Init 6, the VC formed by ecommerce major Bukalapak’s co-founders.

Founded last year, Aigis helps companies provide health benefits such as online healthcare, medication delivery, and health insurance to their employees. It launched its services in March this year, targeting SMEs and startups as its main clients.
The company was founded by Reinhart Hermanus, who was an executive at Ovo and Bareksa; Philip Moniaga, who previously worked as an engineer for Bloomberg and Carousell; and Sebastian Yaphy, who previously served as a product manager at Ovo and Alodokter.
“Existing insurtech startups in Indonesia mostly focus on selling general insurance to individuals. We take a different approach where we focus more on providing services for companies, rather than focusing on distribution or being an insurance marketplace,” Aigis said in a statement.
The firm plans to use the fresh funds for product development and sales purposes.
