MobileMonday China Mobile Startup Competition: Applications Now Open! [UPDATED]

MobileMonday Shanghai and MobileMonday BeijingThe MobileMonday series is probably one of the best platforms to connect with the local communities in any major city, especially when you are a mobile-centric startup and new to the tech startup scene. I recently wrote about my first MobileMonday Jakarta experience, where Singaporean startups, in addition to having the opportunity to pitch, gathered valuable feedback on their ideas.

China will soon see its first ever MobileMonday China mobile startup competition, which will take place in Shanghai on June 18. The competition is a joint-effort between MobileMonday Shanghai and MobileMonday Beijing, and has also received endorsements from GSMA Ltd, organizer of both Mobile World Congress Barcelona and Mobile Asia Expo (MAE). It is now calling for applications, and in order to qualify for the competition, you must be:

  1. A mobile internet startup, or at least mobile centric.
  2. At least six months old, but not older than two years old.
  3. Not be funded by a VC yet, but it is fine if you have received angel investments which are lower than US$1 million.
  4. Able to demonstrate a product on iOS, Android, or any other smartphone platforms during the competition. Should a commercial product or demo be not available, you must at least have a video demo of the product on a phone simulator.
  5. Able to write the slides in English.

A total of 30 mobile startups will be selected by a jury of VCs, angel investors, tech incubators, and successful mobile entrepreneurs. Just like any other MobileMonday format, attendees would be able to vote for their favorite startup at the event itself too. The outstanding few selected will have the opportunity to showcase their startup ideas at The Innovation Labs at MAE on the morning of June 21. It is definitely worth a shot, especially when you’re a new mobile startup looking to gain visibility for your product.

If you wish to find out more about the event details, registration, and application instructions, you can visit their event website here or download application materials here.

Deadline for applications has been extended to June 17, so apply now!
