I got an alert from a friend in India that the iPad 2 is now offered at homeshop18.com. The offer is real. Apple fans in India can choose to purchase iPad 2 in white/black, 16/32/64GB and Wi-Fi/3G. Prices start from:
- Rs. 34900 (US$790) for a Black iPad 2 with Wi-Fi and 16gb to
- Rs. 56500 (US $1280) for a White iPad 2 with Wi-Fi, 3g and 64gb version.
All purchases are free of shipping cost.
I made a call and learned more about the iPad 2 offer from a homeshop18.com’s sales representative.
“These iPad 2 will be shipped from the U.S upon receiving orders from customers. That is why it takes 20 working days to arrive in India. It’s from international,” she explained.
The prices are certainly higher than what are being offered in the U.S Apple website. For example, a 16gb Wi-Fi iPad 2 would only cost US$499. Apple fans in India are required to pay about $300 more at homeshop18.com. Of course, the premium paid would ease the pain and frustration of waiting. Also note that Apple only ships to countries where the iPad 2 are officially launched.
An Apple spokeswoman previously told us that the company “hasn’t announced the availability for iPad 2 in India yet.” Well… If history were to repeat itself, the iPad 2 might take sometime before it is available in India. It’s your call, India: Would you wait or pay the premium?
