OMG vs. Star Horn Royal Club
Time: Friday, July 4th at 4 PM China time (4 AM EDT).
When we think of these two powerhouses, it’s hard not to remember the Season 3 World Championship quarterfinals.
Although their next matchup will be under vastly different circumstances and against a vastly different Royal Club roster, there’s still a deep sense of rivalry, especially between the two ridiculously talented ADC players: Uzi and San.
They also both have new partners on the bottom lane, with Zero next to Uzi and Cloud (most likely) by San. Along with the recent ADC changes made in patch 4.10 (which China just received a few days ago), it’ll be a very exciting matchup to watch. Of special interest is seeing which champions they’ll pick for the first matchup of the new patch, but expect to see Lucian still highly contested.
My guess: OMG (2-0), but it all comes down to champion picks and how well the supports do. OMG is the stronger team with better teamwork and more experienced veterans in the top and mid lanes, but if Zero and InSec can get something going for Uzi in the bottom lane, Star Horn Royal Club might be able to take a match (or even two).
World Elite vs. Invictus Gaming
Time: Friday, July 4th at 7 PM China time (7 AM EDT).
WE and iG have been at it for a while. When League of Legends just started gaining popularity in China, it was these two veteran teams at the eSports frontline. Each time they met, the fans knew they were in for a treat and it’s not an exaggeration to say the rise of LOL eSports is largely thanks to them.
Now, however, both teams are showing some very unsteady play. Communication issues with the two Korean players may be a possibility, as when WE wins, the team wins big; when they lose, they also lose big. For iG, the name of the game is throwing. Even with PDD gone, the team still has a very strong roster, but they need better leadership and better shot-calling.
My guess: Tie (1-1), because throwing and unsteady teams.
