Locofy launches AI-powered design-to-code feature

Locofy, a Singapore-based startup providing a service that converts designs into code, has launched its AI-powered Large Design Models (LDMs) and a new product called Locofy Lightning.

LDMs are Locofy’s initiative, similar to OpenAI’s Large Language Models. The difference is that LDMs focus on design-to-code, where they dissect visual elements, optimize layouts, and enhance code structure.

Locofy Lightning uses these LDMs to enable converting Figma designs into web front-end code with just one click. The LDMs, which were built in-house and trained on a vast dataset of millions of designs, aim to help developers save up to 80% of the time it takes to code the user interface from scratch.

The company said developers and designers typically spend hundreds of hours turning web designs into production-grade code, while a new app or feature can take weeks to design on tools like Figma and Adobe XD.

“Our investment of over US$1 million in the development of Locofy Lightning underscores our dedication to pushing the boundaries of front-end development,” said Honey Mittal, co-founder and CEO of Locofy.

The company said Locofy Lightning’s beta version for Figma is available from today.

Founded in 2021 by Mittal and Sohaib Muhammad, Locofy has raised a total of US$7.5 million in funding from investors such as Golden Gate Ventures, Northstar Ventures, and Accel Partners. Its latest round, taking place in May last year, got it US$4.3 million in seed money.
