"LiveShare by Cooliris" at the bottom

Derek Tan, APAC director at Cooliris told us today that they will be showing off their real-time photo sharing product, LiveShare, to all Singapore’s Nation Day photo sharing participants. Here is Derek’s note:

We are using LiveShare at this year’s Nation Day Parade 2011 (NDP2011), in collaboration with MediaCorp and Young NTUC for the celebrations at the floating stadium and Padang!

That’s certainly big news! There are three things worth celebrating here: First, it’s great to hear that a start-up’s technology has been adopted by big players. Second, it’s great to see the nation embracing new technology. And third, happy birthday to Singapore!

LiveShare isn’t the only online tech being used for the festivities. The NDP2011 will also be streamed live on the Internet, and will feature Facebook chat in the side bar. Singapore has adopted live streaming and Facebook chat before; it resulted in a lot of “interesting” discussions last year. Many of them were insanely moronic comments though, so hopefully we don’t see that again this year.

But yes, LiveShare will be used for a photo sharing competition in this year’s NDP2011, a very smart move by Cooliris to gain traction. “The top 20 photos with the highest number of “likes” on Facebook will each receive two NDP goodie bags,” according to XINMSN. (Not a very exciting reward but good try). The contest will last until August 15 and here’s how you can participate:

  • Download the free LiveShare app on your iPhone, Android or WP7, or simply upload photos here by clicking the upload button at the bottom right corner of the gallery.
  • Login using your email or Facebook account
  • Select the ‘NDP2011’ stream under the Featured section
  • Start snapping photos to share them instantly with everyone at the celebration!

If you’re skeptical about LiveShare, do catch this video to have a glimpse of what the technology can do. It’s cool, especially when you see it live.
