LionsBot boosts cleaning robots’ efficiency with AI

Robotics company LionsBot is a finalist of the inaugural Design AI and Tech Awards, which spotlights innovations by startups, enterprises, and corporations in Singapore.

LionsBot has increased the productivity and reduced the cleaning time of its robots since it adopted AI.

Compared to traditional cleaning methods, the company’s commercial cleaning robots, which specialize in floors, help reduce water use by up to 90%.

LionsBot follows an iterative development approach for its robots, having had up to 10 prototypes built, tested, and evaluated by internal and external parties.

It has deployed over 3,500 units across 30 countries, cleaning over 225 million square meters of space.

Continuous feedback

Continuous feedback is also part of LionsBot’s development process, with its prototypes tested at actual worksites.

This allows the company to get input from users on their experience. These insights are considered in hardware revisions and over-the-air software updates.

With AI, the robots can now plan their paths more efficiently, choosing the shortest one possible. This reduces the time to clean a designated floor space by up to 50%.

AI has also sped up this planning ability, which means the process can now be completed within 0.05 seconds, compared to 13.4 seconds for the same area previously.

Even when a robot encounters obstacles while cleaning, it can instantly replan its route using AI. Without the tech, recalculation could take up to 15 seconds.

AI models have also improved the cleaning robots’ adaptive perception, allowing them to clean even faster.

The company has achieved this without compromising safety, too. In fact, LionsBot’s robots can now more accurately detect and classify objects in their surroundings and fine-tune their speed to avoid collision.
