Line Pay partners with Visa to develop new fintech services

Line Pay, the digital wallet of messaging app Line, has teamed up with global payment company Visa to create new financial services for their collective user base.

Under the partnership, Line users will be able to apply for a digital Visa card from the Line app or add their existing Visa cards. They can also use the service at Visa’s international partner merchants and keep track of their transactions even where Line Pay is not directly accepted.

Additionally, the two companies plan to develop blockchain-enabled services that would enable business-to-business and cross-border payments as well as alternative currency deals.

Line and Visa are also set to launch Line Pay Visa cards in Japan later this year. “The Visa co-brand program that currently serves 2.3 million customers in Taiwan is one of Visa’s fastest-growing programs globally,” said Chris Clark, regional president of Visa’s operations in Asia Pacific, in a statement. “We are excited to extend this momentum to a range of new solutions in more markets around the world.”
