Line celebrates 20 million downloads for Line Rangers with free rubies

There are many Line-branded mobile gamers, but there is only one Line Rangers! The tower defense hit from the Line mobile platform topped 20 million downloads today, just as the game turns six months old. It has also been ranked first on the iOS chart in six countries: Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Laos, Japan, and Indonesia.

While the game made use of mechanics that were almost identical to the runaway success that is Battle Cats, Line Rangers also benefitted from the strength of Line’s popular characters.

Centred around the premise of a kidnapped-spacefaring-Sally needing saving, Line Rangers didn’t just make use of Line’s basic character lineup. It was also able to take all sorts of liberties with familiar faces like Brown, Cony, and James. As we noted in our review of the game, Line Rangers ended up having a wider, more general appeal compared to Battle Cats.

Line is, of course, celebrating this milestone. There will be a special promotion running from now until 11:59 P.M. (GMT +8) tomorrow, where Line users can enter a coupon code issued by the official Line Game account for free rubies.

Line Rangers is available globally in English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Thai, and Korean on both iOS and Android. If you haven’t given this addictive game a go, this is probably a good time to do so!
