LG Electronics expands into AI data center cooling

LG Electronics is expanding into AI data center infrastructure and is showing new cooling and energy products at Data Center World 2026 in Washington.

Its new direct-to-chip coolant distribution unit has 1.4 megawatts of cooling capacity.

LG said inverter pumps and virtual sensors can improve energy use, while immersion cooling is being developed with Green Revolution Cooling and SK Enmove.

LG also showed air cooling systems, a monitoring platform, and an energy tool built with PADO, while a direct current grid project with LG Energy Solution and LS companies targets losses of about 15% from around 25%.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

LG’s push into data centers is part of a wider shift across its affiliates

  • The “One LG” plan combines LG Electronics cooling with power systems from LG Energy Solution, plus design, construction, operations support from LG CNS, an LG group IT and systems integration company, along with telecom work from LG Uplus 1.
  • Market analysis cites an investment plan of about US$70 billion as LG works to become an AI infrastructure provider 2.
  • The turnkey supply contract with Microsoft for AI data centers puts that plan into practice, though LG has not detailed the terms 3.
  • This effort also fits LG Electronics’ “Vision 2030” plan, which aims to lift business-to-business (B2B) revenue to 45% of total revenue by 2030 4.

LG’s bundled approach could change how data center infrastructure is bought

  • LG is selling bundled cooling, power, networking plus design and operations instead of separate parts 3.
  • LG CNS says its modular “AI Box” can shrink deployment from as much as two years to six months 1.
  • An MOU with Flex, a manufacturing and supply chain company, covers modular cooling meant to speed deployment. Flex executives also tie it to faster time-to-revenue 5.
  • The approach could pressure suppliers focused on single components, though the claim that it is hard to copy goes beyond the cited research. Dell’Oro, a technology market research firm, says Vertiv leads liquid cooling while other vendors also hold share 6.
