Let's play CrossFire: does the new update live up to the hype? (VIDEO)
When it comes to first-person shooters in China, Call of Duty, Halo, Counter-Strike and all the other Western challengers play second fiddle to one game. One game that has been dominating the local FPS scene since its release in China in 2008: CrossFire.
CrossFire is, of course, actually a Korean game, but it was shut down in its home country last year. Now, the game is coming back to Korea at the front of a massive media blitz that includes a star-studded, exquisitely-produced TV commercial. In China the game never went offline, but operator Tencent is touting the 2.3.8 update, which went live yesterday and today depending on your server, as a big change.
So what’s all the hype about? I decided to fire up the “new” version of CrossFire and see for myself:
