Singapore’s Redmart is set to be fully integrated into Lazada, which acquired the online grocer in 2016.
From March 15, users will be able to shop for groceries within the Lazada ecommerce platform. The separate Redmart app and site will no longer operate from that date.

However, the new Redmart section on Lazada’s site “will feature similar design, tools, and functions as the existing Redmart app and website,” the company said in a statement.
It added that “from browsing to the ordering process,” users will get the same shopping experience, but now they can choose to complete “their transactions from other Lazada stores at one go” and have more payment options, such as the Lazada Wallet.
Groceries orders made through Lazada will still be fulfilled by Redmart, while purchases from other Lazada sellers will be fulfilled separately. As is currently the case, Redmart shoppers will be able to pick a two-hour delivery slot on any day between 7:00 am and 10:00 pm.
Redmart co-founder and CEO Roger Egan will become Lazada Group’s head of supermarket, where he’ll take the lead on expanding the e-tailer’s groceries offerings regionally.
The company said it’s aiming to launch a supermarket service in at least one other Southeast Asian city during the second half of 2019.
Lazada acquired Redmart in November 2016, for a reported price tag of between US$30 million and US$40 million. Chinese tech giant Alibaba took a controlling stake in Rocket Internet-founded Lazada in April 2016.
