In the spirit of Singapore’s upcoming National Day, I thought it would be timely to introduce a time-management game which features local dishes and drinks coming from the lion city. It’s called Kopi Tiam. I was actually introduced to this game by my colleague Willis two months back, but I didn’t give it much thought until I was on the train browsing through the app store. I was surprised that it was still within the top 25 paid apps for Singapore in the iTunes store, even after two months.
There are two different versions for iOS devices: paid and free. I downloaded the free Kopi Tiam version to give it a shot, after reading many positive reviews. It’s reminiscent of many time-management games, but what sets Kopi Tiam apart from others is the local flavour it has. In essence, you play the role of a local coffee shop owner, serving customers food and drinks that they have ordered.

If you would like to find out more about the different cuisines offered by our multiracial and multicultural city, the app cleverly sums up that up for you in the food alley section within the game. It comes with more details, information, and ingredients of the dishes and drinks. The only unpleasant experience I had with the game was that it gets pretty tardy, as what many have voiced out in the app reviews page. Other than that, boy, it is addictive!
The app is perfect for folks who would like to find out more about about Singapore, and I also see many home-sick Singaporeans based overseas liking the app, because it reminds them of home. So, for fellow Singaporeans abroad and fans of the garden city, you can get the free or paid version on iTunes store. For Android users, you can get the free or paid version on Google Play. We’ve also included the game’s demo video below. Enjoy!
