This intuitive keyboard app wants to get rid of awkward typos forever

We’ve all been there. You’re typing out a sentence fraught with emotion and your thumb reaches for the wrong letter. Suddenly, that carefully placed expletive is changed to “ducking”, the impact of what you’re saying is ruined, and the moment forever gone.

Dale Yoon, chief marketing officer at Keukey, has had plenty of issues with this sort of thing. He cites an example – “he brought bubble guns to school” instead of “he brought bubble gum to school” – explaining that all it takes is a slip of a finger to take sentences from fun to dangerous.

That’s where Korea-based Keukey steps in. It’s a keyboard that corrects typos at any point in a message.

If you see a mistake that’s far behind in your message, you type the right word into your text box and swipe down on your keyboard. Then, Keukey will go in search of the typo and fix it.

You can also do this for words that fit in the same context category. If you type “lunch” and actually mean “dinner”, for example, you can type the latter and swipe down to have it replaced.

Ever been annoyed at having to squint and position your cursor on that very tiny space where your typo is? Not a problem, because Keukey lets you type the word out and swipe left or right until it reaches the right position in the sentence.

That’s not all, though. Keukey also helps make voice recognition more accurate.

“So much effort has been put into developing voice recognition technology, but so few people use it because it’s not efficient,” Dale explains.

Did Google Voice mishear a word, add something extra, or skip one that you wanted? Just repeat the same sentence over and Keukey will review and fix what you’d like.

You would think that people wouldn’t want to download an extra app just to make typing better, but Dale asserts that it’s very necessary. “It’s more useful than you’d realize,” he says, “especially when sending business emails.”

It has 700,000 downloads and a 4.5 star rating on the app store. The patented technology is only available on Android phones at the moment and supports 11 different languages.
