JD Logistics, the logistics arm of Chinese ecommerce giant JD.com, has launched autonomous delivery robots in a few parts of Shanghai to provide contactless last-mile delivery to locked-down neighborhoods.

These robots can load up to 100 kilograms of goods and drive 80 kilometers per charge, stated the company. They have multiple sensors to plan routes and recognize and avoid obstacles, it added.
Beginning in 2020, JD.com has deployed autonomous delivery vehicles for Covid-19 relief in Wuhan, Shijiazhuang, Guangzhou, Beijing, Tianjin, and Shenzhen. In Wuhan, the robots traveled over 6,800 kilometers and delivered more than 13,000 packages in early 2020.
So far, the company has operated nearly 400 autonomous delivery vehicles across more than 25 cities in China.
