iPhone 4 “Laundering” In Taiwan

iphone 4 facetimeApple’s three Taiwanese carrier partners, Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone have finally released the long awaited iPhone 4.

Usually, the media headlines would be flooded by how Apple fans are fighting to be the nation’s first iPhone 4 holders. Not this time round. Instead, iPhone “laundering” seems to be commanding more media attention.

I’m sure ‘smart’ is the right word to use here (no sarcasm intended). Opportunists are swift to capitalize on the contract’s loophole. The math is dead simple (and I wonder how these giant carriers partners missed it):

On average, each deal can bring a decent profit of 2,600 New Taiwan Dollars (approximately 84 US dollars). The carrier partners have altered the price to curb the “laundering” problem. But that doesn’t really matter for now, since Taiwan is experiencing iPhone 4 shortages.
