In Asia, Apple’s new iPad 2 is only available to Japan, Australia and New Zealand on 25 March. If you can’t wait, you can consider getting a dummy, just to ease your anxiety over the new product. A Hong Kong-based seller is selling iPad 2 dummies through eBay at US $33.99. It looks identical in appearance but without any usable functions. 9 were sold so far.
It is a bizarre way to ride the iPad 2 buzz. While many drool over the latest Apple gadget, some would love to have the product “first hand” to prank their friends. Jokes aside, many retailers which are looking to sell the new iPad in their stores would probably buy the dummies to attract passer-bys. These retailers usually buy dozens of iPad from the U.S, bring it back to their country and sell it at premium to Apple fans.
We can understand why Apple consumers are willing pay the premium, as some countries might need to wait for almost a year before the product is officially introduced. India is one example: The iPad was only recently launched this year January. By then, the iPad magic had already dissipated in India, especially when people learn about the upcoming iPad 2.
