TDWclub.com might be unheard of in Indonesia. But its Facebook page and subscriber base seems to be generating quite a lot of traction. Some of my friends in Indonesia are also asking me to find out more about the startup. If you know Udemy, then you should be able to understand TDWclub pretty quickly.
TDWClub is an online learning portal where you can find interesting courses to learn, typically on finance, business, property, life management, stock market, or neuro-linguistic programming (NLP). The courses are mainly covered by Tung Desem Waringin (that’s where TDW is derived from), who is described by co-founder Peter Kohar as “the number one success coach in Indonesia according to marketing magazine.” There are other instructors beside TDW, including Demian and Hendri Setiadi. Peter explains more about TDWclub’s business model:
We are profitable since the first launch of the site […] We sell learning courses and then reinvest the money we use to build website. TDWclub builds a database of learners through Facebook and Google advertising. Whenever there are new courses coming up, a summary list will be sent to alert their users.
The startup also accepts external instructors, similar to Udemy. An instructor can submit an online course which will be followed up on manually before they can offer to sell an online course on TDWclub. The service claims to have an email base of over 110,000 registered, and also a Facebook page with more than 200,000 subscribers.
Peter, who himself has experience in online marketing since 2007, explains that sending motivational quotes helps in building a strong Facebook fanbase. He says that motivational quotes are usually very sharable among the community. And I guess it also attracts the right crowd of people who would love to be inspired, and seek new learning experiences through these courses.
