Y Combinator-backed healthtech startup secures $1m in pre-series A funding

Breathe Well-being, an India-based healthtech startup that focuses on diabetes patients, has raised US$1 million in a pre-series A funding led by 3one4 Capital. Ashish Gupta, an investor in ecommerce player Flipkart, and Suhail Sameer, president of fintech firm BharatPe Group, also participated in the round.

A graduate of Y Combinator’s 2020 batch, the startup also got funding from the US-based incubator.

Founded just last year, Breathe Well-being provides a year-long digital program for people with type 2 diabetes to help them reduce their blood sugar levels, lose weight, and ultimately stop medication. Patients can follow the program, which is prepared by Breathe Well-being coaches, through a mobile app.

The company says it has achieved a monthly growth of 30% since its inception. It has over 10,000 members to date and aims to get 10 million users in the next five years. There are 77 million diabetics in India, and Breathe Well-being CEO Rohan Verma estimates that number could hit 130 million by 2025.

A former business consultant at McKinsey and Company, Verma established Breathe Well-being with Aditya Kaicker, who was a consultant at Accenture. They plan to use the new funds to strengthen the startup’s coaching academy, build its core team, and upgrade its technology platform.
