DE-CIX, a global operator of internet exchanges (IXs), has entered the Indonesian market through a joint venture with IDMarco Digital Solusi, a subsidiary of local conglomerate Salim Group.

Named DE-CIX Indonesia, the joint venture will establish a distributed IX across multiple data centers in Jakarta. IXs are physical facilities where various internet service providers (ISPs), content providers, and networks can directly exchange internet traffic with one another.

The Jakarta IX will combine both local and regional interconnections, including cloud exchange capabilities tailored for enterprises. It will connect with DE-CIX’s existing ecosystems across Southeast Asia, which includes Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Manila.

DE-CIX Indonesia’s platform will also provide advanced security features such as blackholing to mitigate DDoS attacks and in-depth statistical data to help clients understand their own traffic patterns.

“Mega hubs like Singapore and Hong Kong will continue to be important. However, we expect to see the main growth in markets such as Jakarta,” said Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX, in a statement.

DE-CIX, which based in Frankfurt, offers interconnection services at 50 locations in Europe, Africa, North America, the Middle East, and Asia. As of 2022, the company has recorded data volumes of almost 34 exabytes per year and nearly 1,100 connected networks.

Salim Group’s most well-known businesses are instant noodles Indomie, convenience store chain Indomaret, and car manufacturer Indomobil. The group has also made strides in the tech space through subsidiaries like internet provider CBN and fiber optic provider FiberStar.
