1. Bookpad | India

Yahoo has bought one-year-old Bookpad, which built an end-to-end document handling technology for the cloud, is the first Indian tech startup acquisition by the internet giant. The startup was backed by NASSCOM’s 10,000 Startups initiative and Microsoft Ventures accelerator. It was also part of the first batch of startups in NASSCOM’s co-working hub Startup Warehouse.


2. Socialwalk | Malaysia

Socialwalk is a Malaysia-based business matchmaking platform targeted at trade shows and conferences. The company’s basic package, which costs $96, offers clients nine recommended profiles that will be hand-picked by the team, of which six will be guaranteed ‘successful matches’. A ‘successful match’ is made when both parties have accepted the invitation to connect on the platform, which comes in the form of a tick on their profile.


3. Markhor | Pakistan

Markhor, a specialist shoes estore that recently went to Kickstar in bid to raise $15,000 to boost the fledgling business with a new range of shoes. Some will be in the traditional Pakistani style that sort of looks like a sandal, while other models will be more modern and hipstery – all of them are crafted in the same artisanal way. Its crowdfunding campaign has raised US$4,200 in just the first day.


4. NewsHunt | India

Newshunt is India’s answer to Flipboard. Aside from aggregating national and international news, the app also has an ebookstore, a feature which was added late last year. Payments for ebooks are handled by the young company’s own epayments system, called iPayy, which supports carrier billing on some networks. The company secured series B funding led by Sequoia Capital India, with existing investors Matrix Partners India and Omidyar Network also joining in.


5. Jike Xueyuan | China

Launched this year, Jike Xueyuan is an online education startup specializing in teaching IT-related career skills. The company just received a series B round of funding from SIG Asia and BlueRun Ventures. The startup has 120,000 users and over 300 courses on offer covering Android and iOS development, HTML5, Java, and more. With this latest round of funding, it will expand into more web development technologies such as PHP.


6. Invoice2Go | Australia

Australian-based mobile invoicing company Invoice2go announced this week that they had just closed their first ever funding round from Accel Partners and Ribbit Capital. The startup sell cross-platform invoicing apps to small business owners – hence the moniker, 2go – such as Receipts2go, Sign2go, Scan2go, and so on. Here are their credentials: The app holds the top spot in the Australian iOS app store under the business category – as well as in 50 other countries – and about 100,000 small-to-medium businesses use it worldwide at the moment
