Indonesia’s soccer and sexy ladies site DewiBola gets 9.3M monthly pageviews

Dewibola site

DewiBola is an online soccer news site in Indonesia which also focuses on pictures of soccer-related sexy girls. It was launched back in June last year and achieved great stats just three months afterwards. It’s been one year since then, and the team shared its progress with Tech in Asia.

Co-founder Romeo Reijman claims that DewiBola now has 1.6 million visits and 9.3 million pageviews every month. A huge increase compared to last year’s 500,000 visits and 3.4 million pageviews. He attributes this growth to the site’s improved content and how they understand more about their users’ reading behavior.

Reijman explains that the key for any media company to succeed in Indonesia is to keep creating quality original content, keeping it light, interesting, and, if possible, engaging (like getting readers to click 10 pages for top 10 goals by Robin Van Persie). Back then, the most popular section was the girls section, but now it has leveled out with sexy ladies’ having only a slight advantage.

He also emphasized the timeliness and accuracy of the news, as well as how they work on website promotion and awareness.

Reijman himself heads Indonesian digital marketing agency Exo Digital Agency which runs strong soccer-related Facebook groups boasting over 6.5 million fans. That itself is a strong promotion channel for DewiBola. Furthermore, the other co-founder is Steve Christian, the mastermind behind Indonesia’s biggest entertainment online media KapanLagi. Christian definitely has lots of experience when it comes to understanding user behavior, garnering more traffic, and monetizing from online media companies.

Monetization and competition

DewiBola has taken steps to monetize from its platform since January. The most apparent method is Google ads.

Christian, through his company KapanLagi, also runs soccer site Bola.net. Reijman explains that DewiBola isn’t directly competing with Bola.net because they are focusing on different content. Bola.net mainly focuses on just soccer, while DewiBola focuses on soccer, men’s lifestyle, and girls. Even if they are competing in some way, the soccer media market in Indonesia is huge, so there is room for a few more players to meet the demand.

Other soccer news media in Indonesia include DuniaSoccer, Kompas Bola, and Media SepakBola.

Preparing for the World Cup

The team is excited for the upcoming World Cup fever next year and have prepared “a lot of cool stuff” which has yet to be revealed. Reijman adds:

We keep on increasing our traffic and, most importantly, increasing the quality of our content. We hope to be one of the top three soccer sites in Indonesia within another year.

Reijman is a busy guy. Besides running Exo Digital Agency and DewiBola, he also operates beauty e-commerce store BeautyTreats.

DewiBola got some initial funding from both co-founders Reijman and Christian. They are open for collaboration possibilities with interested parties.
