Tech in Asia Tour ready to invade Jakarta with a gang of elite investors

The Tech in Asia crew is storming the gates of Jakarta on July 2 for the third stop of our Tech in Asia Tour: Road to Tokyo 2015. If you’re a digital nomad and haven’t got tickets yet, time is running out to see our expert panel of investor judges dissect pitches from five startups vying for a free trip to our Tech in Asia Tokyo 2015 conference on September 8 and 9.

Our five judges include Aaron Tan, associate director of Singtel Innov8; Koichi Saito, founder and general partner of KK Fund; Takeshi Ebihara, founding general partner of Rebright Partners; Michael Lints, venture partner at Golden Gate Ventures; and Willson Cuaca, managing partner at East Ventures (Disclosure: East Ventures is also an investor in Tech in Asia. The lineup of investors will warm up the session with a fireside chat to discuss how to build a world-class startup in Jakarta. Next, they’ll hear pitches from the five startup teams. Before they convene with each other and decide on a winner, we’ll hear their thoughts individually on stage. Finally, a champion will be named and rewarded with flight, accommodation, free passes, and an exhibition booth for two team members at Tech in Asia Tokyo 2015.

The event is going down on the second day of July at Jakarta’s Conclave co-working space on Jalan Wijaya 1 in South Jakarta. Tickets are free. There will be food, drink, networking, and revels for the winner. Be there or miss out!

Judges

Aaron Tan, associate director of Singtel Innov8

Aaron Tan built his first company at the age of 13. Since then, he’s built more than ten startups with several successful exits. Aaron pioneered the one-dollar web hosting model, and was among the first movers in the pay-per-click search engine business. In 2004, he was awarded the IT Youth of the Year Award from the Singapore Computer Society. In 2006, he accepted a scholarship from the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore. While at Carnegie Mellon, he co-founded several companies and led the development of Classroom Salon, a social networking app that taps the collective intelligence of online study groups. Aaron was most recently given the ITMA Future IT Leader Award in 2010 and is currently serving his bond with Singtel Innov8.

Koichi Saito, founder and general partner of KK Fund

Koichi Saito previously worked at IMJ Investment Partners as the director responsible for IMJ’s investments throughout Southeast Asia such as iMoney, Bukalapak, and Zipmatch. Prior to IMJ, Koichi worked at Private Equity Fund founded by George Soros, and was engaged in several corporate and hotel acquisitions. Before that, he served as an arranger of the securitization of mortgages at the investment banking division of Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities.

Takeshi Ebihara, founding general partner of Rebright Partners

Ebihara founded Rebright Partners in 2008, a Southeast Asia focused venture capital. He first started his career in 1994 at JAFCO, one of the largest venture capital firms in Japan. He also has experience on the other side of the table, where he founded and managed several internet companies. Some of the companies Ebihara managed were listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. He is a mentor at the Founder Institute and a board member of many startup companies in Southeast Asia and Japan.

Michael Lints, venture partner at Golden Gate Ventures

Michael is Venture Partner at Golden Gate Ventures. After graduating with a degree in information science, he worked briefly as a consultant and project manager at one of the largest insurance companies in the Netherlands, after which he started his own business, an IT system maintenance company. In 2007, Michael founded his own venture fund focused on Dutch SMEs before joining Golden Gate Ventures as a venture partner.

Willson Cuaca, managing partner at East Ventures

Willson Cuaca is co-founder and managing partner of East Ventures. Cuaca founded Apps Foundry and serves as its CEO. He is actively involved in building web and mobile products for the consumer market in the Southeast Asia region, particularly in Singapore and Indonesia.
