Xiaomi vice-president Hugo Barra today announced the arrival of the Mi Band fitness tracker in India. It is priced at INR 999 (US$16) and will be available on Mi.com from April 28. The first 1,000 units of the Mi Band will be virtually free at INR 1.
Barra made the announcement at the global premiere of its newest phone, the Mi 4i, in Delhi on Wednesday. There was a minor stampede when Mi Bands were given away as gifts to all the attendees at the event in Siri Fort auditorium.

The Mi bBnd works with any smartphone that has Android 5.0 and above. But when it’s coupled with a Xiaomi phone, it also acts as an unlocker – if there’s a Mi Band on the hand holding the Xiaomi phone, then the phone stays unlocked.
Fitness trackers have been gaining traction in urban India. A popular one is the GOQii band by Indian entrepreneur Vishal Gondal .
