Gods Unchained developer makes layoffs, dismisses lead designer
Immutable, an Australia-based Web3 game studio, has laid off the lead designer and several other team members working on its NFT card game Gods Unchained, Kotaku reported.
The company told Kotaku that the dismissals were part of a reorganization focused on scaling the game to the mainstream. Immutable will continue to hire aggressively, targeting a jump to 360 employees within the next five months from its current 280.
James Wakeham, the lead designer, tweeted about the matter, stating that he and “a bunch of people” had been made redundant.
“They decided that a bunch of the people who were working on the game were not supporting where the product needs to go next,” he added in a follow-up tweet, answering someone who had questioned the state of Immutable’s finances.
Founded in 2018, Immutable was valued at US$2.5 billion after a US$200 million series C funding round in March, which was led by Temasek and joined by Tencent and Animoca Brands. The game studio also offers Immutable X, a platform that helps companies build NFT trading services.
