The tech uses LED screens powered by a video game engine to create realistic backgrounds for television or movie production. With this technology, content creators won’t need to worry about barriers when filming, such as road closures, rental and permit fees, set construction, as well as unfavorable weather conditions.
IMDA has partnered with the National Film and Television School in the UK to help develop local talent in the field. Fifteen Singapore media lecturers, trainers, and industry professionals will receive hands-on training from December 2022 to April 2023. A series of workshops will also be rolled out over the next 12 months.
In addition, IMDA will work with local firms to experiment with virtual production for short-form content. Companies can submit their concepts to the body until February 15, 2023, and selected proposals will receive funding of up to 50% of the project’s cost.
IMDA is also collaborating with Epic Games, the developer of 3D creation tool Unreal Engine, to run an industry challenge in the first quarter of 2023. Encouraging firms to experiment with Unreal Engine, the challenge will reward winners with direct mentorship and training from Epic Games and prize money from IMDA.
