    Smartphone Users Want More Travel-Related Apps

    iphoneNot only must mobile apps accompany users on the go, they must help them with their travel plans as well. If you are a hotel, a travel agency or anything travel related, this report is for you.

    According to eMarketer, close to 40% of smartphone users reported doing travel research on their mobile device, and more than 25% have done their bookings through it before. 20% also revealed that they were interested in receiving travel website advertisements on their device.

    This sure sounds like an opportunity!

    So, what kind of apps are users most interested in?

    PhoCusWright predicts US travelers will spend $76 million on direct domestic hotel bookings through a mobile device. If hotels are not leveraging on mobile marketing yet, they ought to do so soon. Thankfully, majority of hoteliers surveyed plan to implement some sort of mobile marketing, with SMS text marketing being the most popular and iPhone app coming in 3rd.
