Heroes of the Storm may be heading for paid beta, and Chinese gamers want in

Perhaps you’ve already seen the reports that Blizzard’s upcoming MOBA game, Heroes of the Storm, will be going the pay-for-early access route. Sometime soon, it seems, Blizzard will begin offering a paid “founders pack” that’ll give you access to the beta once it launches, in addition to a gold wolf to ride in on.

Chinese gamers have seen those reports too, and despite their general preference for free-to-play titles, it seems many would be happy to pay for beta access. The technical alpha Blizzard is running right now isn’t officially available in China and a beta probably wouldn’t be either, but paying Chinese gamers could probably still connect to overseas servers to play, and apparently many of them would like to. In a reader poll conducted on Netease Games that has attracted more than 1,300 votes as of this writing, nearly 50% of respondents said they’d be willing to pay for the beta, and another 17% said they might (“it depends”).
