Dirk has founded 6 companies since college with the following scorecard: 2 exits, 2 dividend plays and 2 failures. In late 2014 he teamed up with his partners Teru Sato and Hiro Maeda to form BEENEXT an early stage Singapore-based investment fund with a focus on SEA and India.

2. Between a Rock and a Hard Place – Managing LPs and Founders

Investors are constantly juggling the expectations and needs of limited partnerships (LPs) and portfolio companies. While getting everyone aligned is hard, it’s a necessary skill for any venture capitalist to have. SaeMin Ahn, managing partner at Rakuten Ventures and Vinnie Lauria, founding partner at Golden Gate Ventures will come onstage to share some tried and tested tips on keeping everyone happy (and a couple of war stories!).

Vinnie Lauria is an entrepreneur turned venture capitalist. He’s a founding partner at Golden Gate Ventures, an early-stage VC firm in Southeast Asia with dozens of investments to date. Vinnie was selected as the highest rated startup mentor in Asia, from a pool of over 2,500 Founders Institute mentors in 2013.

SaeMin Ahn is is the Managing Partner at Rakuten Ventures. He is responsible for leading and evaluating investments, conducting due diligence, and analyzing deal structures. The VC launched a US$100 million fund for international startups in 2014, and a US$85 million fund for Japanese startups more recently this year.

3. Private Equity in Southeast Asia’s Startup Scene

Asia’s tech ecosystem is booming, and the growth is attracting increasingly high levels of private equity investment. While China and India have historically been core markets for these deals, Southeast Asia is now becoming a hot favourite for some of the world’s leading firms.
