Hashable Makes Twitter #Intro Social

Penn Olson features start-ups. Find out more here.

twitter-who-to-followTwitter introduces relevant people to its users through an algorithm. It’s good… but shouldn’t introductions be made through a real connector?

It should be more personal and social. It shouldn’t be a one way event where you hit the follow button and hope that the person you just followed notices you.

I’m sure you have experienced it before. Tweeting the person you just followed seems a little weird. For those who haven’t, here is an example: “Hi @ameliachen, this is Willis. I just followed you. Hoping to connect :)” Even if my intention is genuine, that tweet makes me look like a stalker. Especially when a guy tweets a girl.

Hashable is here to make Twitter introduction more personal and less awkward. The idea is simple. Instead of connecting through an algorithm, Hashable connects people-to-people through a real connector. Here’s an example:

Isn’t this way better? Perri (@bethebutterfly) connected me to Michael (@mikeyavo), who is Hashable’s CEO. It makes connecting more personal and reliable. Thanks to Perri, I got to know Michael, someone whom I can definitely learn a lot from. For non-twitter users, Hashable also works for emails.

Connecting is just the first step. Hashable makes sure connections made aren’t just on the surface. #Breakfast, #Lunch, #JustMet, #Drinks, #PhoneCall and #YouRock are some cool hash-tags that make connecting fun and sustainable. Notice that these hash-tags encourage users to meet in-person or at least communicate through the phone. Connecting goes way beyond than just hitting the follow button.

What’s In for Users?

Hashable users are usually influencers and connectors. Think about it. The more connections you bridge, the more influential you become. Plus, Hashable also opens you up to more connections and opportunities. The way Michael and I met is the best example.

That’s not all. Hashable rewards active users through its point system to recognize connectors in its community. It even has a leaderboard to rank connectors. You earn hashcred (points) by posting and receiving connections. Here are some actions which will earn you hashcred.
