Codetoki’s IT employment proposal wins at Ideas & Apps Philippines Challenge

Every student worries about getting a job after college. Students graduating with Information Technology and Computer Science degrees from Philippine schools are no exception.

But many of them have trouble finding employment.

Worried about this trend, Codetoki hopes its idea would help change this and put graduates in good shape when applying to jobs.

Codetoki, a Cebu-based startup, had the idea of providing a free platform offering to equip students with mobile and web application development skills. It also aims to give them greater access to tech-related events such as competitions and workshops, connect with professionals, work on actual projects, and possibly find internship or employment opportunities. Such skills would then increase the competitiveness of a graduate, making him or her a more likely hire for IT-related employment opportunities.

With this idea, Codetoki won the Ideas category of the Ideas & Apps Challenge, a competition started by AppBridge in collaboration with Globe Telecom to facilitate education, employment and economic opportunity for disadvantaged young people. Codetoki also previously won third place in Startup Weekend Cebu, an intense 54-hour event which focuses on getting people to build a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend.

The second portion, the Apps Challenge, will commence this week and teams are required to create and launch mobile solutions that offer real-time, real-world solutions, using mobile features like SMS, voice, and smartphone apps to improve the lives of people who are in need or at risk.

More information on the competition here.
