GREE Expands Aggressively To Overseas Mobile Market

In the last couple of months, we have seen several Japan-based companies expanding abroad, namely GREE.

GREE’s $100 million acquisition of OpenFeint was one of the hottest topics for discussion in the tech and gaming community. The acquisition would allow GREE to reach a combined total of 100 million mobile gamers. It also crowns GREE as one of the largest social gaming companies in the world, standing along with giants like Zynga and Playfish (owned by EA).

We also saw GREE working hard in Southeast Asia as it expands its reach through a partnership with mobile social network, Mig33. The partnership would make GREE’s games available to all mig33’s 47 million mobile users.

GREE also launched A-Fund, a joint investment fund with DCM, Tencent and KDDI which is positioned to leverage on Android’s exploding platform. The fund would invest in start-ups building Android-based products.

Putting all these pieces together, we see GREE marching towards the overseas mobile market. I wonder what GREE has installed for us next.
