The “Office Race” Continues… GREE Looks To Set Up Shop in Dubai

gree-vs-denaWhenever DeNA has a new office or overseas partnership, GREE seems to have one too (and vice versa). It’s like an “Office race” where both companies are racing to see who has more offices outside of Japan.

Although the race we described above might not be what’s really behind all this, as a blogger who has been diligently tracking both companies’ growth, it seriously seems to appear like that way. Or perhaps, it could be called a game of Risk to see which company can occupy the entire world with their “troops”.

It was just days ago that we broke the news about DeNA’s partnership with Daum in South Korea. And today, we learn from GREE that it plans to set up shop in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The new office in Dubai will start its operation in January 2012 and will focus on building relationships with game developers and providing support in the Middle East region.

I’m not sure why Dubai. But one can safely assume that GREE must have a quite a substantial number of active developers there to justify this move. I did ask, but the folks at GREE declined to reveal any company-related figures with regards to Dubai.

Or maybe GREE really wants to win this game of Risk. Other places left unconquered are Sahara desert, Greenland, and Antarctica.
