In brief: Grab trials GrabWheels e-scooter service

A three-month trial has begun for Grab’s e-scooter sharing service, GrabWheels, at the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Kent Ridge campus.

E-scooters have been deployed across eight parking stations on campus in the pilot, which sees the new service being tested for the first time in Singapore, Grab said in a joint news release with NUS.

Grab and NUS said that they would expand the number of parking stations to 30 by the end of the year.

Users can unlock the e-scooters with the beta GrabWheels app. They’ll be charged S$0.20 (US$0.15) for every 30 minutes of ride time, which includes insurance coverage. To end their ride and park their scooter, users will need to scan a specific QR code at one of the designated parking stations.

It wasn’t immediately clear if GrabWheels will be included as part of GrabCycle, the bike- and scooter-sharing platform that Grab launched earlier this year.
