GoTo appoints Hans Patuwo as CEO, replacing Patrick Walujo

GoTo has appointed Hans Patuwo as its new president director and group CEO, replacing Patrick Walujo after a shareholder vote at its extraordinary general meeting on December 17.

GoTo is a digital services company based in Indonesia, operating platforms such as Gojek, Tokopedia, and GoPay.

Shareholders also approved changes to the board, including the resignations of Pablo Malay and Winato Kartono from the board of commissioners, replaced by Andre Soelistyo and Santoso Kartono, and the resignation of Ade Mulyana from the board of directors.

Patuwo previously served as chief operating officer and led the company’s financial services and cloud migration projects.

Before joining GoTo, he worked at multinational companies in the US, China, and Singapore, including McKinsey.

The new board includes Agus D. W. Martowardojo as president commissioner and Catherine Hindra Sutjahyo as vice president director.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Patuwo’s hire signals a tighter operating focus

  • GoTo booked its first adjusted pre-tax profit of Rp62 billion in Q3 2025, and adjusted EBITDA rose 239% YoY to Rp516 billion 1. Q3 2024 still carried Rp1.69 trillion in net losses 2. EBITDA means Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization.
  • With a track record in cloud migrations and operations at multinationals, Patuwo will likely focus on infrastructure efficiency and costs. Tokopedia already runs hundreds of microservices on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and analytics in BigQuery, Google’s cloud data warehouse, on Google Cloud 3.
  • The company lifted full-year EBITDA guidance to Rp1.8–1.9 trillion from Rp1.4–1.6 trillion 1. That roughly 23% bump at the midpoint signals confidence in staying profitable.

Cloud sellers can tap GoTo’s fintech and delivery

  • GoTo handled over 500 million transactions in one month, and monthly transacting users rose 29% YoY to 24.2 million 1. Payment and fraud systems need real-time monitoring and quick scaling, which cloud providers can bring.
  • The consumer loan book grew 76% YoY to Rp7.6 trillion 1. Vendors with Machine Learning (ML) infrastructure for credit risk or data warehouses like Snowflake (a cloud-based data platform) can pitch lower cost than BigQuery for these workloads 3.
