Google Street View car involved in hit and run in Indonesia

Car accidents happen all the time. But when it happens to a Google Street View car that then flees the scene after hitting another car, then a lot of people will notice. Indonesia’s Detik reports today that a Google Street View car did exactly that in the city of Bogor.

The same report cites a police representative as saying that the Google Street View car driver hit an angkot (public minibus) and panicked after the angkot driver got angry. The Google driver then drove away, but hit another angkot and a truck on the small road. There’s no word on whether anyone was injured in this accident. The Street View car’s front was damaged as a result (pictured below).

Google’s head of communication for Indonesia, Vishnu Mahmud, tells us that there was indeed an accident with one of the Street View cars in Bogor. He adds:

We take incidents like this very seriously. We’re working closely with local authorities to address the situation.

Google Street View officially started to roam Indonesia in November last year in partnership with the country’s ministry of tourism.
