Android is One of the Most Successful Acquisitions for Google

In a panel earlier at GMIC, Ming Guang Yong, New Business Development Manager at Google China shared the search engine’s investment criteria. In 3 quick points:

– Growth stage: Fast growth companies are appreciated
– Technical skills: The technical abilities of the team to solve the problem identified
– Small teams: A quick team that can move swiftly

Ming also said that Android is one of the most successful acquisitions Google has made so far and he is right.

comScore reported that Android’s market share in the U.S had overtaken Apple’s for the first time. Research firm, iSuppli Corp also estimated that the Google’s Android worldwide market share would outnumber iPhone by 2012. Everything seems to be going well. Even investments are coming to the Android direction.

The recent A-fund, jointly founded by Tencent (one of the largest Internet company in China), GREE (Japan’s largest mobile gaming social network) and KDDI (second largest telco in Japan) committed $100 million to start-ups leveraging on the Android platform. With investments, enthusiastic developers and large user base, Android is heading towards the right direction.

Take that, Apple. But try not to resort to cheap iPhones to gain market share though.
