A Google AI specialist based in Singapore has been moonlighting as a GrabFood delivery rider for months.
Yann AïtBachir has been delivering meals around Singapore’s Marine Parade and Katong neighborhoods on the weekends, working for around four to five hours every Saturday and Sunday.
The reason? He is doing it all for charity to “support few causes fighting poverty and nature conservation in Southeast Asia,” according to his LinkedIn post on Monday.
“As I’m not looking for extra money, I got the second idea to give all the income to the charity,” AïtBachir said in a CNA video featured in the same LinkedIn post.
“I was working from home. I was spending a lot of time on the computer, and I wanted to be more active,” he added.
The 43-year-old Frenchman said in the CNA video that he could raise between S$700 and S$800 (around US$511 to US$584) every month, out of his S$1,000 (around US$730) monthly target.
“Legal? Absolutely. I’m a PR. This is on the side. My employer knows,” he said in his LinkedIn post.
AïtBachir is a Singapore permanent resident and has lived in the city-state for around fifteen years.
